The Truth About: R.E.L.I.G.I.O.N

I watched the above video last night while having super and wine with my friend Hendre. It blew me away.
It is raw, real and true.
I hope it inspires you.

A poem by Jeff Bethke:

"What if I told you, Jesus came to abolish religion?
What if I told you getting you to vote republican, really wasn’t his mission?
Because republican doesn’t automatically mean Christian,
And just because you call some people blind, doesn’t automatically give you vision.
If religion is so great, why has it started so many wars?
Why does it build huge churches, but fails to feed the poor?
Tells single moms God doesn’t love them if they’ve ever been divorced
Yet God in the Old Testament actually calls the religious people whores
Religion preaches grace, but another thing they practice,
Tend to ridicule Gods people, they did it to John the Baptist,
Cant fix their problems, so they try to mask it,
Not realizing that’s just like sprayin perfume on a casket
Because the problem with religion is that it never gets to the core,
It’s just behavior modification, like a long list of chores.
Let’s dress up the outside, make things look nice and neat,
Its funny that’s what they do to mummies, while the corpse rots underneath,
Now I ain’t judging I’m just saying be careful of putting on a fake look,
Because there’s a problem if people only know that you’re a Christian by that little section on your facebook
In every other aspect of life you know that logics unworthy
Its like saying you play for the lakers just because you bought a jersey
But see I played this game too; no one seemed to be on to me,
I was acting like church kid, while addicted to pornography.
I’d go to church on Sunday, but on saturday getting faded,
Acting as if I was simply created to have sex and get wasted.
Spend my whole life putting on this façade of neatness,
But now that I know Jesus, I boast in my weakness.
If grace is water, then the church should be an ocean,
Cuz its not a museum for good people, it’s a hospital for the broken
I no longer have to hide my failures I don’t have to hide my sin,
Because my salvation doesn’t depend on me, it depends on him.
because when I was Gods enemy and certainly not a fan,
God looked down on me and said, “I want that man!”
Which is so different from religious people, and why Jesus called em fools
Don’t you see hes so much better than just following some rules?
Now let me clarify, I love the church, I love the bible, and I believe in sin
But my question, is if Jesus were here today, would your church let Him in?
Remember He was called a drunkard and a glutton by  “religious men”
The Son of God not supported self-righteousness, not now, not then.

Now back to the topic, one thing I think is vital to mention,
How Jesus and religion are on opposite spectrums,
One is the work of God one is a man made invention,
One is the cure and one is the infection.
Because Religion says do, Jesus says done.
Religion says slave, Jesus says son,
Religion puts you in shackles but Jesus sets you free.
Religion makes you blind, but Jesus lets you see.

This is what makes religion and Jesus two different clans,
Religion is man searching for God, but Christianity is God searching for man.
Which is why salvation is freely mine, forgiveness is my own,
Not based on my efforts, but Christ’s obedience alone.
Because he took the crown of thorns, and blood that dripped down his face
He took what we all deserved, that’s why we call it grace.
While being murdered he yelled “father forgive them, they know not what they do”,
Because when he was dangling on that cross, he was thinking of you
He paid for all your sin, and then buried it in the tomb,
Which is why im kneeling at the cross now saying come on there’s room
So know I hate religion, in fact I literally resent it,
Because when Jesus cried It is finished, I believe He meant it. "

I'm really not the type that goes to church anymore... although I used to when I was younger out of my own will. My folks didn't bring me up with religion but I wanted to go for myself - I went to church camps and youth groups in the evenings... even so.. I am incredibly spiritual and this video that I watched last night changed my life - as my friend Hendre said it would. It really opened my eyes.

Have a goodie bloggers!

  1. I believe in something, a God.. a higher power. I believe in good and evil. I believe that people need 'something' to go to each day, to feel good about themselves, for the community, to celebrate and 'practice' their faith. I'm not big on the bible.. it was written a long time ago. I always say that the bible is a lot like the game telephone that we play as a kid. You take 25 kids- the first kid starts by saying a phrase and by the time the phrase is passed along, the last person says what they heard and it is NOTHING like what the original person said. So 25 kids changed the original phrase in two minutes, can you imagine what thousands of years would do?
I don't mind if you are religious, but please don't mind if I'm not. I don't act better than religions, so please don't act better than me. That is all. I like to live my life by the golden rule: Treat others the way that you would like to be treated.
Religion is a really touchy subject. But I'm cool with sharing because you shared. :)

  2. lovely blog :)

  3. I've watched this video so many times and I'm probably in love with it!

  4. Wow, I didn't get to watch the video because the work computer I am on has no sound :o( but if it's anything like the poem. Wow. It's so powerful, beautiful and true. I describe myself now as spiritual rather than religious. My parents are super religious Catholics so I was always forced to go to church when I was younger. I hated going, I never felt like I belonged there. It was always so uncomfortable. When I was older I guess I strayed from all of that. I didn't have room for it in my life, didn't quite see the relevance not until about 2-3 years ago when I hit rock bottom and I came across all those self help books and blogs. They helped me through it, helped me see a higher power like the Universe and such and eventually led to me seeing it as God or Jesus sometimes. I don't read the bible or anything like that but I believe in positive thinking and love. Love is what makes the world spin around and it's something we need more of. There's too much hate and crap out there. Kind of reminds me a quote by Late Nelson Mandela;

“No one is born hating another person because of the color of his skin, or his background, or his religion. People must learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, they can be taught to love, for love comes more naturally to the human heart than its opposite.”

It's so true. I do think religion plays a big part in this hate. Denying same sex couples marriage and equality, women's rights to abortion and contraception and the worst offending, that your religion is the right one, the others be damned. Wars still rage over religion, which in this day and age I feel like is utterly pathetic.

Anyway, hope I didn't rant on too much here Jade! And hope I made sense. I seem to loose train of thoughts and jump around when I get lost within a thought!
Hope you're well and having a splendid week pretty lady,
